La saison 2009 était trop serrée chez les dames sans grandes surprises,à part l'arrivée de la jeune Americaine Brittney Reese à la plus haute marche du podium mondial de Berlin 2009.Elle a fait un parcours de progression silencieux depuis 2007 à Osaka avec une huitieme place de la finale du concours puis en remontant à la cinquième place aux jeux olympiques 2008 de Pékin et enfin leader et championne du monde en 2009.Il est à noter que Reese a été la seule athlète au cours de cette saison ayant sauté à plus des 7 mètres.
L'ex-heptathlonienne Portugaise Naide Gomes a pu s'intégrer facilement à l'epreuve du saut en longueur en devenant une concurrente potentielle dans chaque compétition , ratant sa finale olympique à Pekin et déçue encore à Berlin en rattant la médaille de bronze de peu,malgré ses 6.99m réalisés juste un mois avant l'objectif principal.
La Turque Karen Melis Mey d'origine Sud - Africaine a pu profiter des conditions et du niveau du concours à Berlin pour se faire distinguer avec une troisieme place avec un saut à 6.80m.
La Russe Tatyana Lebedeva,revient difficilement d'une blessure qui l'a obligé de rétrécir sa préparation compétitive a pu quand même compter sur son expérience pour décrocher l'argent à Berlin.
Les trois grandes nations qui dominent l'athletisme mondial à savoir la Russie ,les Etats-Unis et l'Allemagne disposent chacune de 7 athlètes dans le top 50 mondial 2009.

The 2009 season was too tight in women without major surprises, except the arrival of the young American Brittney Reese to the top step of the World in Berlin 2009.She made a silent progression since 2007 in Osaka with a eighth place in the final and then to fifth at the 2008 Olympic games in Beijing and finally leader and world champion in 2009. Be noted that Reese was the only athlete in this season have jumped to over of 7 meters.
The former Portuguese heptathlete, Naide Gomes was able to easily integrate the event of long jump, becoming a potential competitor in each competition, missing the Olympic final in Beijing and in Berlin still disappointed and missed bronze little despite 6.99m made just one month before the important goal.
The Turkish Karen Melis Mey from South-Africa could take advantage of conditions and the level of competition in Berlin to be distinguished with a third place with a jump of 6.80m.
Russian Tatyana Lebedeva, came from hard back injury that forced her to narrow her competitive preparation could still count on her experience to get the silver in Berlin.
The three big nations that dominate world athletics namely Russia, the United States and Germany each have 7 athletes in the world top lists 50 ( 2009.).
