Bilan acceptable
Acceptable
participation for the Algerian athletics at the African games of Rabat 2019.
Far from the past and the historical results of Algerian athletics at major international events, today, at the African games “Rabat 2019”, the Algerian athletics is presented as a weakened discipline in its events especially in the middle distance. Another worry added to this situation is that women's athletics is also struggling to find a respectable place in African competitions and to reach an equivalent or higher level.
The national athletics team was represented by 11 athletes (8 men and 3 ladies). The medal count is a welcome performance compared to the previous edition. But to think that the harvest has been fruitful for the general harvest of the national delegation, is frankly fall into the self-satisfaction which, the specialists of the discipline know it well, is the first obstacle to overcome to open other aspirations to other performance peaks that exceed the continental level. If the result with a total of seven medals including five gold is satisfactory, some performances are just of an acceptable level for the African level and this then leads us to ask the question about the actual level of our athletics to access a World or Olympic podium.
The result is much better than at the last edition of 2015 in Brazzaville. On another side, the numbers also show the maximum level of athlete performance in their missions given the means at their disposal and the planning strategy adopted for the programs of their preparation which can only lead to a probable relative failure in relation to the overall quality of the team.
While the big end of the season is coming soon, very few athletes have reached the level of performance required to possibly aspire to a final of the world meeting in Qatar. We must already think for the Olympics 2020 but also to prepare those of 2024 in Paris.
