Athletics events are the highlights of major sporting events. There are forty-five finals in total (23 males and 22 females), so it's a hopeful discipline and that's where the country could get its most medals.
At the last edition of Brazzaville Games in 2015 (11th edition), which was dominated by Nigeria, the national team of athletics finished in eighth place with a total of eight medals with seventeen athletes took part in this competition. The highest number of medals won by athletics was at the Algiers Games in 1978 with a total of 14 medals.
